Combine 1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool for 1 minute.

Place cranberries in a large bowl. Pour warm syrup over cranberries and toss gently for even coating.

Using a slotted spoon, transfer cranberries onto a wire rack or parchment-lined tray. Allow to sit for 2 minutes until surface becomes tacky.

Roll small batches of cranberries in 1/2 cup granulated sugar until fully coated. Set aside to dry for 2 minutes before serving.
